School not participating in ICAS this year?

Your child can sit ICAS at one of our testing centres in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide or Auckland, and still have the opportunity to show their academic excellence.

We offer tests for English, Mathematics, Science and Writing, which are run by our Janison Exam Management (JEM) team who have been invigilating high-stakes exams for the education sector for over 30 years.

Entry requirements and cost

To be applicable, your child must:

  • Be enrolled in an Australian or New Zealand school that isn’t participating in this year’s ICAS for the desired subjects
  • Participate in their current year level
  • Have their own, fully-charged compatible device that has passed our technical readiness test, and has the locked-down browser application installed (for Writing subject only). See technical requirements here.

Each subject costs AU$57.75 or NZ$62 (incl. GST), aside from Writing, which costs AU$62.75 or NZ$67 (incl. GST). This is paid when booking online. You must register and pay for your child’s session to gain entry to the test.

Bookings close on 12 July 2024, or as soon as allocations are exhausted. Hurry to avoid missing out!

Cancellations and Refund Policy

Your booked test time cannot be switched to an alternate time and date, so please choose carefully. Because limited seats are available and we need time to re-sell them, refunds will not be considered four weeks or less before the test date.

Fees paid are non-refundable if a student or parent/guardian decides to withdraw from the ICAS competition through JEM. For further information, please refer to the ICAS at JEM Terms & Conditions, our Refund Policy, or contact our customer service team on 1800 931 775 (Australia toll-free) or 0800 440 904 (New Zealand toll-free), or by submitting your enquiry here.

Terms and conditions can be found here.

Due to the limited number of timeslots, we’re not able to accommodate changes to the timeslots after you’ve made your booking.

Please contact our customer service team as soon as possible on 1800 931 775 (Australia toll-free) or by submitting your enquiry here.

Prepare for testing

Our locked-down browser application (Janison Replay) is designed to prevent your child from accessing other applications such as web pages, cameras, spell checks, screenshotting, keyword shortcuts, and other features during the live assessment. It’s needed for ICAS Writing at our test centres. For more information, visit out our locked-down browser page.

Please follow the technical readiness test instructions here to ensure your child's device is ready for ICAS. This is an online test (similar to internet speed tests) that assesses whether your device meets the necessary technical requirements.

Please reach out to our customer service team to amend the details as soon as possible on 1800 931 775 (Australia toll-free) or 0800 440 904 (New Zealand toll-free), or by submitting your request here.

All computers must come exam ready. If there is an issue on the morning, our supervisors will try to assist your child.

You can visit our ICAS practice tools page for more information on how to prepare. This page includes past papers, more information on our exam practice tool RiSE+, and support videos to give your child an idea of what it feels like to sit an ICAS test.

You can learn about the different types of ICAS questions in this video.

Test day

Students are advised to arrive at the specified start time to ensure they have sufficient time to complete administration checks and set up their device before the test.

In booking a test, you agree to drop off and pick up your child at the times designated by your selected timeslot. Janison Exam Management staff will not be responsible for supervising your child outside of these times.

We recommend that your child arrives at their testing centre at the start time noted in their booking.

Our invigilators are sensitive to students feeling nervous or anxious and are highly experienced in keeping a calm atmosphere and doing everything possible to ensure your child's ICAS test runs as smoothly as possible.

Please look out for the clearly displayed ICAS or JEM testing centre signs. Our staff will give you further instructions at the registration desk.

Every child is provided with their own unique one-time code to access their test on the test day. This is combined with a unique test session code that is created by the invigilator on the day of the test. Children can only access the test once the invigilator has started the test session. The invigilators monitor all children during the assessment.

Our supervisors will contact you in case of illness or emergency.

Each child should bring their compatible device and a bottle of water. DO NOT BRING: Pencil cases or additional stationery. We provide working out paper and pencils to students. More information on devices can be found here.

Working out paper is approved for use following the rules of the assessment. Our invigilation team will supply this on the day. Students are advised not to bring it with them to their testing centre.

Generally, eating isn’t permitted during an exam. In most cases your child can bring a transparent, unlabelled bottle of water into the exam room.

More information about car parking and public transport information, can be found here.

All our testing centres follow standard cheating prevention guidelines. These include desk spacing and active monitoring by our invigilators who are well trained in detecting any covert devices on students before they enter the exam room.

After the test

You can access your child’s results online via the results portal. You will need to enter their TAP-ID and PIN which can be found on their ICAS certificates. You can also follow the ICAS parent/student guide which provides a detailed explanation on how to view results.

Results for all ICAS subjects (excluding Writing) are released online approximately 15 working days after your test day. Writing is released approximately 4-6 weeks after your test day because it requires manual marking. Printed certificates are despatched approximately two weeks after results are released online to the address you nominated in your ICAS testing session booking.

Yes, we mail printed certificates to the shipping address you nominated during your ICAS testing session purchase. Please keep a look out for the envelope approximately 4-5 weeks (6-8 weeks for Writing) after your child has sat their test.

You can find your child’s TAP-ID and PIN at the back of their hard copy certificate. If you have misplaced their certificate or are waiting for a certificate to be given to you, you can fill out this form. Please note, there is a wait time of 1-3 business days to receive your TAP-ID and PIN through this method. TAP-ID and PIN will be issued once the online reports for that subject are published for each school year.

To get your child’s ICAS certificate reissued, please contact our customer service team here. The costs are as follows:

  • Australian schools: ICAS certificate reprint, admin fee and shipping costs – AU$40 (excl. GST)
  • International schools: ICAS certificate reprint, admin fee and shipping costs – AU$50 (excl. GST)
